most important, as owing to the great variation in prices,

both of materials and labour, which had taken plase all

over the world during the previous 12 months, it was vital

to find out the altered conditions in connection therewith

since the visit of Sir Feurice Fitmaurice at the end of

1920.

11. The collection of information proved to be a

much longer undertaking than was anticipated, und as vo

have only reseived particulars by instalments during the

last few months, it was not possible for us to complete our report and plans at an earlier date. Seme further inforM–

ation kas still to arrive but we have received sufficient

to allow us to report on the main works.

In 1876, 1877, 1876 and 1879 the late Sir Jahn

Goode advised on the re-building of portions of the Freya destroyed by a typhoon in 1874, and on its extension. 1878 he reported on the construction of the Causeway Bay
